IIW2006--the Intention Economy--a Session

Iiworkshop2006podcast_3 The following audio file is a recording of a session at the Internet Identity Workshop 2006. Instigated by Doc Searls, the session brought together several people, including Kaliya Hamlin, another of the workshop's organizers, to discuss how customers might acquire more power in the marketplace--or, indeed, create a new version of the marketplace--how this could or should come about, and what the consequences might be.

This is obviously a topic that engages people's interest and one they find natural to think and speak about. People spoke from differing viewpoints, and there were a few moments of real disagreement, largely around contrary communitarian and individualist positions.

As an artifact of the informal nature of the sessions, I don't have a list of the participants. Those I have include: Doc Searls, John Ramer, Stefan Thomas, Dave Kearns, Bill Washburn, Owen Davis, Kavita Bali, Nick Givotovsky, Mawali Chango, Stas Rutkowski, Jair, and myself. Several give their names at the end of the session recording, but I would ask anyone who was there to send me your name, and I will include it in this post. Also, obviously, if I have misspelled or misrepresented anyone, please let me know and I'll correct that.

I should note that the session took place around a table with some people sitting behind others, all in the middle of a large open space. There were four microphones, one of which had to be passed around and turned on and off as needed, so I find it rather amazing that people's voices are generally audible. Just another tribute to the self-organizing principle of the workshop, I suppose.
